Honeymoon Planned Out!

We have spent all weekend planning out how far we want to drive each day and booking our overnight reservations. Some of our plans changed, but we are very excited for what we have chosen to see and do for our Honeymoon! Read below for the details…

We are still planning to spend a day with Dave’s family in the Outer Banks, after spending a night in Maryland. Crystal Rose hopes the weather is nice and we can join a Ghost Tour Saturday night. Before arriving to the Outer Banks, we will also stop at Assateague Island, and Dave is looking forward to crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel! If we have time, we will also drive through Virginia Beach (and maybe walk a little of the boardwalk).

After a day with the family, we are off on our own and head towards the Blue Ridge Parkway! In the five full days we are exploring the Parkway, and Skyline Drive, there are several attractions we are planning to see, both on and off the parkway. In addition to Sliding Rock, the Linn Cove Viaduct, Chimney Rock, Grandfather Mountain, the Quarry Overlook, and many other mileposts sights, we plan to explore the Blowing Rock and check out Mystery Hill in North Carolina, and see the Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County, Virginia.

After the Parkway and Skyline Drive, we will head north. After a visit to the Kinzua Bridge State Park in Pennsylvania, we will make our way to the Grand Canyon… (of the East), Letchworth State Park! This was a very exciting find that was recommended to us through our guestbook! In order to spend a full day at the “Grand Canyon of the East”, we have decided to visit Niagara Falls another time. Besides, we are both excited about the final leg of our journey (for different reasons).

Before coming home, our final stop is two nights in Northampton, Massachusetts. Crystal Rose has always wanted to spend a weekend in this quaint New England town, but Dave wasn’t sold on the idea… until he learned that it is home to the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum, and many more Calvin Coolidge sights (Calvin Coolidge is Dave’s favorite President).

We heavily debated Zip-lining through the Catskills, but have decided this can be a weekend excursion (likely in the colorful fall). We finally landed on Northampton because Dave suggested a quiet, relaxing end to our Honeymoon Journey. Crystal Rose suggested Northampton, but Dave was skeptical, and decided to do his own Google Search for “cutest towns in Massachusetts”… guess what town is number one! Once he learned about the Calvin Coolidge history, he was sold.

Our final stop before coming home will be to visit the butterflies at Magic Wings. We stopped here once before but did not take the time or money to see the butterflies, so we thought this would be a nice way to end our trip… after all this IS our Honeymoon.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Facebook Post: David Michael is with Crystal Rose Hill-Farrell at Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory on March 11, 2018, in South Deerfield, MA. Text reads: Pit stop on the way home. I was too cheap to go inside the butterfly room, but maybe next time. There are two pictures. One of Crystal Rose on a bench that is shaped like butterfly wings, and one if a selfie of Dave and Crystal Rose. The text on the wall says Magic Wings, there is a large, decorative butterfly on the wall, and there are flowers behind the bench.

  1. The natural bridge was cool. Not far from there, about 45 minutes, is Lexington, VA. There’s a lot to see. We got there late and places were closing. Check it out online. You may be interested. I’d like to go back some day.

  2. Magic Wings is also cool! If you wear some cheap floral perfume, you will attract the butterflies and they’ll land on you. Lol. The Yankee Candle flagship store is right next door. It’s also a nice place to see even if you don’t want to buy anything.
